• Suicide is the third leading cause of death for young people between the ages of 15 - 24.
• The fastest-growing group completing suicide is children between the ages of 10 - 14 (a 99% increase from 1980-1997).
• 90% of all people who die by suicide have a diagnosable psychiatric disorder at the time of death. 60% of all people who die by suicide suffer from major depression - the most treatable of psychiatric illnesses.
• Firearms account for 60 of all suicides. Firearms are used in more suicides than in homicides.
• The U.S. Surgeon General has issued a Call to Action that resulted in the U.S. National Strategy for Suicide Prevention, Goals and Objectives for Action.

The Light for Life Foundation of San Diego was established in 1997 as a regional chapter of the Light for Life Foundation - International. In April 2000, we expanded to become The Light for Life Foundation of Southern California. Our purpose is to save lives through the prevention of youth suicide - the fastest growing killer of youth in the United States today - with awareness, outreach, and promotion of The Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program.

We are a nonprofit, 501c(3), nondenominational organization. Donations are deductible as per current law.
